I am sure that when most people think of DIA, clinical trials, pharmaceuticals, and anything else relative to life sciences would be the first thing to come to mind. Not for me. From the moment I walked in the door I was curious about the technology behind the science.

With multiple regulations and organizations invloved in each project life sciences companies take on, technology plays a pivotal role in completing these projects efficiently. After talking with many of the exhibitors and attendees, I noticed a common theme; a need for a place to collaborate, share documents, and connect over current projects.

If you know anything about SharePoint, it is probably obvious why I see this to be the perfect solution. When participating in clinical trials, CROs, doctors, and the organizations hosting the trials can upload and update the ever increasing amounts of paperwork to one site. Approvals can be workflowed to trial members, calendars and reminders can be set for important deadlines, and permissions to certain files and folders can all be set on one SharePoint site. This saves the hassle of downloading, saving, editing, and reattaching files to emails along with having to deal with the pile up of old versions, wondering where documents are in the approval process, and the list goes on...

SharePoint is growing rapidly within life sciences for obvious reasons. There is no end to what SharePoint can do for this vertical.

Are you ready?

In Southern California there are three SharePoint User Groups (SPUGs) alone- Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. These three groups have been operating separately to plan events, coordinate presenters, and communicate with users... Until now!

We are pleased to announce that the LA, OC, and SD SPUG groups are combining to form SPUGS.org! This website will provide SharePoint users with an all-access pass to all three SPUG's websites, presentations, discussion boards, and upcoming events in the SoCal area. This new umbrella organization will allow the SoCal chapters to collaborate on topic ideas and presentations to help further the education of the ever expanding SharePoint community.

Can't wait for SPUGS.org to launch? Check out individual chapter sites!
